3D Printer
What would you like to make? Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Science administered by Texas State Library, our patrons can put the new 3-D printer to work. Using latest technology, 3-D printing (or rapid prototyping) or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The object being created is made through laying down successive layers of material (extruded PLA) until the finished object has been created, layer by layer. There is no charge for using the equipment, only pass through costs of material used at about .10c per gram. An amazing array of files have already been created on www.Thingiverse.com which allows users a vast selection of items to make from phone cases to decorations to body parts. Come try your creative hand at making something you need!
